Chapter Thirteen

“Does it really matter what I do? I saved your ass from a situation you should never have been in.” He slowly walks us both backward until my back is flush against the passenger door of his truck, effectively pinning me in. His breath brushes over my ear as he talks against my cheek. “That’s all you need to know.”

“How do you expect me to just forget everything that happened? Don’t I deserve answers after everything I’ve been through?”

“I can’t give you answers. Please just let it go. Trust that I’ll handle everything.” He speaks in a whisper sending chills up my spine.

“But you saw me like that. Chained up and displayed for everyone to look at like disgusting filth.” He presses his hard body against mine, grinding his hips into me and sending my mind all over the place while my body naturally reacts to his.

“I didn’t see filth.” If this is his way of distracting me from all the questions I have… it’s working. I struggle with what to say next, when I came here with everything completely mapped out in my head. In all of the scenarios I played out, I never dreamed he’d do something like this to make a point.

“What did you see?” He exhales with my question and hesitates before he finally responds.

“I saw a woman I’ve known for most of my life.” He slides his large hands down my arms, stopping at my hips before he repositions them back on the truck and allowing a few inches between us. “The same body I’ve seen in a bikini a thousand times and always found myself curious about what was underneath the tiny shreds of material that could’ve been untied at any time.” He grinds against me once again. “Do you know how hard it was in high school not to pull one of those strings just to see what you’d do. I always had to remind myself how much younger you were.”

“I probably would’ve slapped you. You were an ass.”

“I still am. I have to be.” He’s still grinding against me, but now his bulging erection is part of the mix. “It keeps people safe.”

The more he continues, I find myself almost frozen in place. My body trying to urge him not to stop at the same time I’m shifting just slightly so that the pressure is in all the right places. “Fuck, I want you.”

I want him too. Like crazy. But I could never tell him that. Gabe isn’t the kind of guy to be with a girl more than once. He doesn’t like commitment. He hates ‘clingers’ and I’m not sure how all of this will turn out when right now I want nothing more than to wrap my arms around his neck and never let go.

He makes me feel safe. He always has. And that’s something I need more than ever and can’t seem to get anywhere else but, in his arms… or apparently over his shoulder.

“You bought me. You own me.
